What makes Texas Vision Therapy
different?

WELCOME TO

TEXAS VISION THERAPY

We work with the visual system through a neuro-based approach to help children and adults improve how their eyes perform. Our specialist focuses on visual processing and function, not eyesight or glasses, and our rehabilitation treatment is designed for patients struggling with:

  • Learning difficulties, such as ADHD and dyslexia
  • Symptoms from post-concussions or trauma
  • Double vision
  • Crossed or lazy eye
  • Eyestrain when reading or driving
  • Balance, dizziness, or vertigo

Dr. Chelette is the creator of The Brain-Based Vision Recovery Model, a 4-Phase Neurological Approach to Visual Rehabilitation, a method that targets the root neurological causes of eye struggles by retraining the brain and visual systems as an alternative to medication or compensating for symptoms.

Visual Therapy Patient Journey

brain based vision recovery model

Your eyes may be healthy. The issue may be communication.

We identify how the brain is misprocessing visual input — not just whether the patient sees 20/20. What’s Assessed: eye tracking, convergence/divergence, binocular coordination, visual processing speed, and vestibular integration (if concussion-related)

We calm the system before we challenge it.

Reduce symptom intensity before intensive retraining for headaches, dizziness, motion sensitivity, visual overwhelm with tools such as precision lenses (if indicated), controlled visual demand, and foundational coordination work.

We retrain how your brain processes vision.

This is the core of vision therapy and it focuses on strengthening binocular coordination, improving tracking efficiency, building endurance, and increasing visual-cognitive integration so that reading becomes easier, symptoms decrease, and recovery accelerates.

We don’t stop when symptoms improve. We restore function.

Dr. Chelette transitions patients from clinical improvement to real-world performance. For example: classroom endurance, sports tracking, screen tolerance, driving confidence, cognitive stamina, etc.

Phase 1 — Neurological Mapping

Phase 2 — Stabilization and alignment

Phase 3 — Neural retraining

Phase 4 — Integration and Performance

What to expect during your brain-based vision evaluation with Dr. Chelette?

Your first visit is designed to answer a different question than a routine eye exam: Why are these symptoms happening if your eyes “seem fine”?

Most patients we see have been told their vision is 20/20 and that everything looks "normal," although they are still dealing with headaches or eye strain, reading difficulties or slow comprehension, dizziness or motion sensitivity, trouble focusing or attention challenges, or symptoms after a concussion.

This is because many vision problems are neurological and functional, not optical.

Evaluation (Beyond 20/20 Vision)

Your evaluation includes approximately 120 minutes of direct doctor time, focused on identifying problems within the visual system that affect daily performance.

We assess:

  • Eye teaming (binocular vision dysfunction) – How well your eyes work together as a coordinated system
  • Eye tracking (reading & learning performance) – How efficiently your eyes move across a page or screen
  • Eye focusing (visual endurance & clarity) – Your ability to sustain clear vision over time
  • Visual processing & eye-brain coordination – How your brain interprets and responds to visual information
  • Refraction and functional lens testing – Whether glasses may reduce strain or improve comfort
  • Basic eye health screening – To rule out medical eye conditions

Our goal is to reduce frustration and misdiagnosis. We want you to feel informed, supported, and confident in understanding both the problem and the options available to address it.

During the evaluation, we will:

  • Pinpoint the root cause of symptoms
  • Explain what we found in clear, understandable terms
  • Connect your symptoms to how your visual system is functioning
  • Determine if a targeted treatment plan is needed
